Home Hotel Grand Helsingborg (Grand Hotel / Clarion Grand)

DOCUMENTED: Home Hotel Grand (historically Grand Hotel Helsingborg; later Clarion Grand Hotel) stands at Stortorget 8 in central Helsingborg, Skåne. Hotel operations began in 1926 (inaugurated 8 March 1926) and it remains one of the city's oldest continuously operating hotels. ARCHITECTURE & ORIGIN: The plot (earlier linked to Hotel Munthe) was bought in 1917 by AB Skånska Handelsbanken for a monumental bank palace designed by architect Ernst Stenhammar. After bank consolidations made a new bank palace unnecessary, and amid Helsingborg's hotel shortage, plans were converted to a hotel; drawings were modified by August Stoltz. The result is a strict National Romantic facade in dark Helsingborg brick with sandstone detailing — among the city's most monumental examples of the style, and largely intact externally.
